Victoria A. Martinez, nee, Atilano, 91, passed away at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 27, 2008.
Victoria was born in Quanah, TX, on March 23, 1917, to Feliciano and Margarita (nee, Gonzalez) Atilano. She has been a resident of Racine since 1940. Victoria married Salvador Martinez in Kansas City, KS,in 1939. He preceded her in death in 1955. Victoria was employed with Foster-Forbes for over 10 years before her retirement. She loved to crochet and enjoyed both dancing and listening to music.
Survivors include her children, Juanita (Ray) Marhefke, Christina (Terry) Huebschen, Pilar “Connie” (Donald) Milestone all of Racine, Fidel Martinez of Milwaukee and Felix (Linda) Martinez of Racine; step-son, Rudy (Donna) Martinez of Milwaukee; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Frank (Joan) Cruz, Rebecca Cruz and Vincent Valadez. Victoria is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margarita Valadez; step-father, Cruz Cruz; infant grandson, Vincent Ramos; her sisters and brothers, Antonella Gerardo, Alfonso Cruz, Cruz Cruz, Jr., Pilar Cruz and Sarah Hernandez.
Funeral services for Victoria will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, January 1, 2009, at 7 p.m. with Brother Juan Villareal officiating. Inurnment will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 5 p.m. until the time of services. Memorials to the American Diabetes Association have been suggested.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of unit 3D at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare for the excellent care and compassion given to Victoria and her family during her stay and to the staff at Becker- Shoop for their loving care.
