LaVane King Bradley

LaVane King Bradley, 73, passed away unexpectedly in the emergency room of Wheaton Franciscan-All Saints Medical Center on Sunday, December 28, 2008.

LaVane was born in Myrtle, Mississippi, on May 31, 1935, to the late Rev. Thurman and Carrie Mae (nee: Garrett) King. She graduated from B.F. Ford High School - New Albany, MS, in 1955. Years later, she went on to further her education at Gateway Technical College in Racine. On July 7, 1955, in Waukegan, IL, she was united in marriage with the love of her life, Charles Augusta Bradley.

With her vibrant smile and extremely friendly attitude, LaVane enjoyed her employment positions at Ametek Electric, WBZN radio station, and Ruud Lighting, from where she retired in 2003. LaVane was a faithful and active member of Second Missionary Baptist Church. Being a devoted wife, proud mother and gracious hostess was her passion in life. LaVane absolutely loved and treasured being in the surroundings of her entire family.

Surviving are her husband of over 58 years, Charles; their beloved son, Gregory Lenar Bradley; sister, Jennie M. Dixon; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Kathleen (Orven) Brown, Mae Bradley, Alfred (Gennie) Bradley, Darrell (Maxine) Bradley, Larry (Juanita) Bradley and Flora Bradley; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends too numerous to mention by name.

In addition to her parents, LaVane was preceded in death by her brothers, J.V. King and Obia King, Sr.; sisters, Naomi (Lester) Williams, Laura (Robert) Crump and Lula (Grover) MacKenzie; father-in-law, Albert Bradley; mother-in-law, Birt (nee: McShane) Bradley; brother-in-law, Albert Lee Bradley; sister-in-law, Doris Bradley-Wade.

In accordance with LaVane’s wishes, cremation will take place. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at a later date.

A heartfelt note of thanks to LaVane’s relatives and friends for the many years of home visits and phone calls when it was difficult for her to leave her house. You are the ones who kept her smile glowing. May God continue to bless all of you!
