During World War II George served in the United States Navy Air Force and was the proud recipient of a medal for serving in the Central and South Pacific. On November 16, 1946, he was united in marriage to Angeline Filandrinos, who preceded him in death on June 12, 1999. George and his brother, Tom, owned and operated the Driftwood Restaurant for twenty years, retiring in 1989.He was a life-long member of the Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, serving on the Board and as President for many years. George managed Easterday Paint Company until operating the Driftwood Restaurant in Sturtevant with his brother and “my best friend,” Tom.
George was actively involved in several organizations including serving as the founding president of the Sturtevant Kiwanis Club (Greater Mt. Pleasant), board member of the Crime Stoppers of Racine County, member and past president of the American Hellenic Education Progressive Association, past president of the Sturtevant Chamber of Commerce, and 20-year member of the Planning Commission of Sturtevant. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed golfing with the Johnson Park Seniors, Ives Grove Seniors and Maple Crest Seniors Leagues. Above all, he treasured time spent with family and will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul G. (Sheila) Loumos of Racine, Dean G. Loumos, Ana Araujo of Madison, WI, and James G. (Cynthia) Loumos of Downers Grove, IL; his five beloved grandchildren and sole granddaughter, Sarah Angeline Holmquist, Alexander George Loumos, Gregory James Loumos, Christian James Loumos and Nicholas Araujo Loumos; sister-in-law, Bea Loumos of Racine; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rev. Theodore (Ionne) Filandrinos of Minneapolis, MN, Helen Drivas, Ann Filandrinos of Sheboygan, WI, Jane Poulakos of Chicago, IL, Katherine (George) Karas of Racine; cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends and very special and good friend, Gladys Schubert, Sturtevant, WI. In addition to his wife and parents, his brothers, John and Tom, and sister, Sophie Maragos, also preceded George in death.
Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 1335 South Green Bay Road, on Saturday, January 3, 2009, from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend John Ketchum officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Sunset Ridge Cemetery, Kenosha, WI. Memorials to the Kimissis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church have been suggested.
The family extends a special thank you to the entire staff at the William S. Middleton VA Hospital, Madison, for all of their loving and compassionate care.

I'm so sorry for your family's loss. I worked with George when he was on the Sturtevant Planning Commission. I will always remember his great sense of humor.
Some of my fondest memories are of working At the Driftwood ans a young man. George instilled in me the love to cook and the love of greek food. It was a fun place to work. I will always remember hin as a good man.

Along with my brother Jerry, I worked got to know George and Angie at the Driftwood. They were kind and good people and I always enjoyed working for them. I received my first taste of baklava at the Driftwood, and did get in trouble sometimes for eating too much of it (I was not alone, all the employees loved it). I now make this treat for my own family every Christmas. May God comfort your families during this difficult time.
