Lois Mae (Niebur) Kaplan

Lois Mae Kaplan, age 85, passed away Monday, December 29, 2008, at Ridgewood Care Center. Lois was born in Racine on May 5, 1923, daughter of the late Wilbur D. and Ruth F. (Nee: Parks) Niebur.

On May 3, 1952, she was united in marriage to Jerome W. Kaplan, who preceded her in death on August 26, 2006. She was previously married to John M. Kropp, who died during World War II. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Lois was a loving and caring mother dedicated to family and friends. She was always there for anyone who needed her help. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her children, Betty (Patrick) Decker of Racine, Donna Lepianka of Crivitz, WI, Linda (Timothy) Akin and Robert (Rachel) Kaplan, all of Racine; her grandchildren, Christine (Hichem) Dhane, Joseph (Jane) Decker, Stephen Decker, Matthew (Bekka) Akin, Keri (Brian) Engelking, Lisa Akin (Carl Miller), Brandon Kaplan, Britani Kaplan, Casey Kaplan and Taylor Kaplan; six great-grandchildren, Alec, Sydney, Ferris, Andrew, Kate, and Kylie; sister, Betty Cleven of Racine; brother, Bill (Ida) Niebur of Lake Tomahawk; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Bernard Lepianka and brother, Burton Niebur.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1533 Erie St., on Monday, January 5, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. John D. Aiello officiating. Interment will follow at the the Bohemian National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation have been suggested.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Ridgewood Care Center and Odyssey Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.
